Smart SME publishes news that changes what a UK business owner should do next. If you have that, we want to hear from you.
What we publish
We cover UK small and medium businesses, and we are interested in the things that actually move: not marketing copy, but events.
- Funding and investment. Rounds raised, grants secured, lenders backing SMEs.
- Appointments and promotions. New chief executives, finance directors, operations leads.
- Acquisitions and mergers involving UK small and medium firms.
- Product and service launches that a small business would realistically buy.
- Expansion. New sites, new jobs, relocations, record years.
- Research with real numbers behind it. Surveys, data studies, and reports on how UK SMEs are trading.
- Awards and recognition where the shortlist or result is genuinely competitive.
What we are less likely to run
- Announcements with no UK small business angle
- Rewritten corporate boilerplate with nothing new in it
- Anything aimed at large corporates or at consumers rather than owners
- Claims we cannot check, or statistics with no published source
How to send it
Email jb@smartsme.co.uk. It reaches the editor directly.
Paste the release into the body of the email rather than attaching it, and include:
- A link to the announcement or news hub on your own site
- Any embargo date, clearly marked in the subject line
- A named contact we can come back to with questions
- Images as links rather than attachments, with any credit or licence noted
What happens next
We read everything. We cannot reply to everything, and a story we do not run this week may still be useful later, so nothing is wasted by sending it.
Where we publish, we write our own version rather than reproducing a release, and we will link to the company and to the original announcement. If a fact does not stand up we will ask before we print it, or leave it out.
Pitching a feature or an interview
Smart SME runs a regular spotlight on one UK business owner and what they are building. If you or a client would make a good subject, say so in the same email and tell us in a line or two what makes the story worth a reader’s time. We are looking for a real decision, risk or change, not a company profile.
For PR agencies
If you are building a UK SME media list, please add Smart SME. Releases sent to jb@smartsme.co.uk reach the editor without going through a form. We publish daily and we are actively looking for UK small business news.
Corrections
If we have published something inaccurate, email jb@smartsme.co.uk with the article link and what is wrong, and we will correct it.
